By Kathryn McCusker, KMYOGA Founder
I’ve been thinking a lot about change, renewal and new beginnings lately.
Perhaps it’s this week’s New Moon in Gemini, perhaps it’s the new month, or the beginning of a new season, or a combination of all of these, and I’m sure it’s also got a lot to do with the changes we’ve made at KMYOGA and the new timetable we will be offering our students, all of which come into effect on Sunday June 1.
New Moons are a great time to set a new intention – and I’ve already set mine – and that is to embrace the changes and make the most of them.
Change is a funny thing – and everyone seems to deal with it in different ways – some go into denial, some get angry, some accept them and see how they can make the most of the changes, and some even see change as an opportunity for renewal.
I witnessed all of these responses and more when I announced the changes to the studio nearly a month ago. Some students asked us to keep the classes we had, some students got angry, saying they wouldn’t come back or they’d join a gym instead, others were very supportive and empathetic to the changes and focused on the many positive benefits we have all experienced from the teachings and being part of a creative yogic community.
I was a little surprised to hear some people’s reactions to the changes, however I am aware that change does not sit comfortably with all of us, and that sometimes fear can create resistance to change. Often we do not like to step out of our comfort zone, even if we sense it could be an opportunity for growth. When I look back on how KMYOGA unfolded and all the changes I created to make it happen, if I had allowed fear of the unknown to paralyse me, KMYOGA would never exist today!
With the New Moon, a new month and a new season, KMYOGA shifts into a new phase and one that I am very excited about.
With four wonderful teachers who are 100% dedicated to sharing the transformational technology of Kundalini Yoga and supporting our students, we are still offering daily (sometimes twice daily) Kundalini Yoga and Meditation classes, and introducing more special events including New Moon and Full Moon classes, monthly Men’s Kundalini classes and monthly film and supper nights, and of course continuing our weekly Saturday morning Community Sadhana practice. We are refocusing the energy of our teachers and our studio to continue providing an inspirational Kundalini Yoga and Meditation experience in Sydney’s most beautiful yoga studio.
This is a time we can all use to harness and embrace positive change in our lives. The New Moon in Gemini on Thursday is about versatility, curiosity and new opportunities to discover. Gemini thrives on activity, new situations and new people. There is a ‘buzz’ in the air, so let’s embrace it.
New Moons are an opportunity to set an intention for the month ahead. The Yin energy of a New Moon is not so much about hardcore goals and achievements. It is more about welcoming something new into your life.
I have realised that all the good things in my life are the results of changes that occurred in the past. I am a true believer that once you get the courage and take the first step to change, your life will become much richer!
Love and Gratitude to Everyone
